California must lead the way on climate action by setting a high bar for other states and nations to follow. A Green New Deal for the Golden State would create and support a suite of legislation prioritizing environmental justice and transitioning workers from the fossil fuel industry to high paying union jobs in a newer, greener economy. Call on your elected representatives to support a California Green New Deal!
As the world’s fifth largest economy and a politically progressive state, California has a responsibility to demonstrate true leadership on climate action. To preserve the Earth for future generations, we must create and implement the environmentally just roadmap that other states and nations will follow. Therefore, I call upon you as an elected leader to support and enact a Green New Deal for the Golden State.
We must begin by acknowledging the facts and declaring a state of climate emergency — then back that declaration up with legislation that moves our state rapidly to carbon neutrality and transitions workers into good paying union jobs in the new, clean energy economy.
Amid worsening fires, stroms, and other climate catastrophes, it is not enough to pay lip service. As frontline communities of color suffer disproportionately time and again, it is not sufficient to rest on arguments of personal responsibility and refuse to take adequate measures, as our elected leaders, on behalf of the people you serve.
The science is clear. All we lack is the political will. Please prioritize people over profits. Please demonstrate true leadership and work hard, every day, to pass a California Green New Deal — right now, while we still have time.
